Aluminum Round Fixed Swirl Diffuser

AXP Round Swirl Diffuser
01 / 03 Products

01 / 03

AXP series round swirl diffusers are designed to supply air in heating, air conditioning and ventilation applications, in premises with ceilings 8.5 up to 13 feet (2.6 up to 4 meters) high and with temperature differential up to 22ºF (12ºC). They are suitable for multiple types of commercial buildings.

Their round shape together with the helical design of their vanes cause a stable swirl diffusion of the air stream, obtaining a high induction rate and reducing the stratification.

They can be mounted in drywall ceilings or directly on exposed duct.

PART 1 – GENERAL

1.1 SUMMARY

A. Round swirl supply diffuser(s) with fixed swirl diffusion pattern; suitable for heating, cooling, and VAV applications.

B. Construction: heavy-gauge spun aluminum diffuser face; duct mounted or drywall mounted, as scheduled.

C. Application limits: suitable for ceilings 8.5 to 13 ft (2.6 to 4.0 m) and temperature differential up to 22°F (12°C), unless otherwise indicated.

D. Optional plenums: provide optional plenum(s) where scheduled for air equalization, acoustical performance, limited ceiling space, oversized face with given duct diameter, and/or special damper requirements.

1.2 SUBMITTALS

A. Product Data: Manufacturer’s data for scheduled neck sizes and configurations, including:

  1. Free area, recommended minimum and maximum airflow.
  2. Pressure loss and diffuser-generated NC.
  3. Throw data (with Coanda effect and without ceiling effect, where published).
  4. Induction ratio data (where published).
  5. Temperature differential correction factors (where published).
  6. Mounting method and accessories.

B. Shop Drawings: Show scheduled model designation and neck size, mounting type (duct mounted or drywall mounted), finish/color, and optional plenum selection (PLRR or PLXP) including air equalizing grid option (EQ), where scheduled.

C. Airflow Prediction Report (Required): Provide manufacturer-generated room airflow prediction report for each diffuser type and unique room condition using manufacturer performance data and recognized correction methods. Report shall include:

  1. 3D room layout with diffuser placement.
  2. Predicted airflow visualization views: plan (top), section (side), elevation (front).
  3. Throw distances for terminal velocities of 150, 100, 60, 50, 40, 30, and 20 fpm.
  4. Pressure loss at scheduled airflow.
  5. Diffuser-generated NC.
  6. Perceived NC at room center (5 ft height), 63–8000 Hz octave bands; include assumptions used.

D. Verified CFD Validation (When Indicated): Provide EffectiV Verified CFD validation and summary report for spaces indicated and/or when operation is outside published selection limits.

1.3 SUBSTITUTIONS

A. Substitutions per Division 01.

B. Proposed equals shall provide a line-by-line compliance matrix including all Part 1 deliverables.

PART 2 – PRODUCTS

2.1 BASIS OF DESIGN

A. EffectiV AXP aluminum round swirl diffuser, fixed swirl diffusion pattern.

2.2 SIZES AND AIRFLOW (AS SCHEDULED)

A. Provide scheduled neck diameter(s) and airflow within published ranges:

  1. 5 in (125 mm): 32–79 cfm
  2. 6 in (160 mm): 47–129 cfm
  3. 8 in (200 mm): 71–159 cfm
  4. 10 in (250 mm): 103–229 cfm
  5. 12 in (315 mm): 203–347 cfm

B. If higher airflow is required for a given duct size, provide oversized face with PLRR plenum, as scheduled.

2.3 MATERIALS AND CONSTRUCTION

A. Diffuser: heavy-gauge spun aluminum construction with helical vane geometry producing stable swirl diffusion.

B. Mounting:

  1. Duct mounted (directly on exposed duct), or
  2. Drywall mounted, as scheduled.

2.4 FINISH

A. Factory powder coat, TGIC-free, White M9016 unless otherwise scheduled.

2.5 OPTIONAL PLENUMS AND OPTIONS (AS SCHEDULED)

A. PLRR plenum: optional plenum used to equalize air (including use with EQ air equalizing grid option), to use an oversized face with a given duct diameter, and/or to add a special damper, as scheduled. Plenum shall include anti-seismic tabs.

B. PLXP plenum: optional side-connection plenum used where ceiling space is limited, where acoustical performance is important, and/or to add a special damper, as scheduled.

C. EQ option: air equalizing grid (perforated plate) where scheduled.

PART 3 – EXECUTION

3.1 INSTALLATION

A. Install diffuser(s) in accordance with manufacturer instructions; coordinate duct mounting versus drywall mounting as scheduled.

B. Where optional plenum is scheduled, install plenum square/true and attach diffuser per manufacturer method; coordinate anti-seismic tab attachment where applicable.

3.2 ADJUSTING

A. Balance to scheduled airflow and verify diffuser-generated NC requirements.
