DCG-ACTIF Thermodynamic Aluminum Round Diffusers are designed to efficiently supply heating and air conditioning in rooms with higher ceilings.

They are available in dimensions ranging between 6″ and 12″ duct diameters. Ideal for commercial applications including restaurants and offices with high open ceilings.

DCG-ACTIF Thermal Round DiffuserThe diffuser will automatically adjust its diffusion pattern based on the supplied air temperature, switching between horizontal projection of cool air and downward projection of hot air. This optimal temperature-based diffusion dramatically improves thermal comfort and energy efficiency in spaces with high ceilings.

ACTIF diffusers are self contained units which are automatically actuated by thermoreactive elements. They don’t require any power, configuration, controls nor maintenance.

DCG-ACTIF is a perfect example of how EffectiV diffusers can combine architectural appeal, thermal comfort and energy efficiency benefits, all in the same product.

PART 1 – GENERAL

1.1 SUMMARY

A. Adjustable round supply diffuser(s) with autonomous thermal adjustment of discharge mode (horizontal/vertical) in response to supply air temperature, without controls and without electricity.

B. Intended for tall spaces and applications where supply air temperature varies between heating and cooling modes.

C. Construction: aluminum; duct mounted or drywall mounted, as scheduled.

D. Optional plenums and dampers: provide PLRR/PLXP plenums, EQ equalizing grid, and damper types (R3G/OBD/RSBD) only where scheduled.

E. Thermodynamic actuator system: Actuator and thermodynamic mechanism shall be fully concealed within the product and not visible from the occupied space.

F. Autonomous operation: System shall be fully autonomous and shall require no controls, no electricity, and no wiring of any kind.

G. Factory configuration: System shall be factory pre-configured and shipped ready to install; no field adjustment, calibration, or configuration shall be required.

1.2 SUBMITTALS

A. Product Data: Manufacturer’s data for scheduled neck sizes and configurations, including:

  1. Free area; recommended minimum and maximum airflow.
  2. Pressure loss and diffuser-generated NC.
  3. Throw data (as published) for horizontal and vertical discharge conditions where applicable.
  4. Temperature differential correction factors (where published).
  5. Description of thermodynamic mechanism (autonomous switching behavior).
  6. Mounting method and accessories.
  7. Optional plenum and damper selections (if scheduled).

B. Shop Drawings: Show model designation, neck size, mounting type (duct mounted or drywall mounted), finish/color, and optional plenum selection (PLRR or PLXP) including EQ option, where scheduled. Indicate any scheduled damper type (R3G / OBD / RSBD).

C. Airflow Prediction Report (Required – SelectiV): Provide a manufacturer-generated SelectiV airflow prediction report for each diffuser type and each distinct room condition. Report shall be based on manufacturer performance data and include recognized airflow physics corrections (ΔT correction factors, Coanda effects, buoyancy effects, jet interaction, and wall/floor/ceiling collision effects). Report shall include:

  1. 3D room model with diffuser locations.
  2. Predicted airflow visualizations: plan (top), section (side), elevation (front).
  3. Throws for terminal velocities of 150, 100, 60, 50, 40, 30, and 20 fpm.
  4. Pressure loss at scheduled airflow.
  5. Diffuser-generated NC at scheduled airflow.
  6. Perceived NC at room center (5 ft height) from all sources combined across 63–8000 Hz octave bands; include key assumptions used.

D. Verified CFD Validation (When Indicated): Provide EffectiV Verified CFD validation and summary report for spaces indicated and/or when operation is outside published selection limits (airflow, ΔT, mounting height, geometry).

1.3 SUBSTITUTIONS

A. Substitutions per Division 01.

B. Proposed equals shall provide a line-by-line compliance matrix including all Part 1 deliverables, including the SelectiV Airflow Prediction Report deliverables and confirmation of autonomous thermal adjustment without controls/electricity.
