Actuator-Controlled Nozzle Jet Diffuser – Duct Mounted
KAM-D-M5 is the duct-mounted KAM nozzle jet with an on/off actuator. The building control system switches its long-throw jet between two angles: +30° (upward) in cooling and −30° (downward) in heating by default, or any other pair of angles between −30° and +30° specified when ordering. The angles are set at the factory and cannot be changed once the diffuser is manufactured.
It is the model to choose when the jet must follow the operating mode of the system on command rather than the supply air temperature. The actuator lifts the cold jet so it does not fall on the occupants, and drops the warm jet so the heat reaches the floor instead of stratifying under the ceiling. It serves the same large rooms as KAM-D, from a horizontal duct opening in open ceilings with exposed ductwork.
KAM-D-M5 is made of powder coated heavy-gauge spun aluminum and mounts directly inside a round duct opening; the absence of flange makes it very discreet. The IEH round duct mounting adaptor (10, 12 and 16 in, mill finish or powder coated) is listed on the submittal drawing.

Description
The KAM Series aluminum adjustable nozzle jet diffusers by EffectiV have been designed specifically to provide air diffusion into large spaces. They achieve a very long throw for both heating and cooling, with flexibility in direction.
Three methods of adjustment are available: manual (KAM-W and KAM-D), thermodynamic (KAM-W-ACTIF and KAM-D-ACTIF) and actuator-controlled (KAM-W-M5 and KAM-D-M5).
The design is the result of a collaboration of MADEL® and Benedito Design with the goal to provide a diffuser that encompasses smooth modern aesthetic lines appealing to the architectural market while providing a unique performance for specific applications.
In KAM-D-M5, an on/off actuator tilts the core between its two positions. Driven by the building control system, or by the heating / cooling changeover of the air handler, it brings the jet to the cooling angle when cold air is supplied and to the heating angle when warm air is supplied. The two angles are chosen when ordering, anywhere between −30° and +30°; the defaults are +30° in cooling and −30° in heating.

PART 1 – GENERAL
1.1 SUMMARY
A. Long throw jet nozzle supply diffuser(s) adjustable by means of an On/Off actuator to control jet direction.
B. Construction: aluminum; provide duct-mounted or surface-mounted models as scheduled.
C. Mounting types:
- KAM-M5-W: Surface mounted; includes a removable rim to conceal mounting screws after installation.
- KAM-M5-D: Duct mounted.
D. Finish: factory powder coated (TGIC-free), white RAL 9016 unless otherwise scheduled.
1.2 SUBMITTALS
A. Product Data: Manufacturer’s data for scheduled model(s), available sizes, and mounting type(s), including:
- Recommended airflow range and free area (as published).
- Pressure loss and diffuser-generated NC.
- Throw data with ceiling effect (Coanda) and without ceiling effect (as published).
- Temperature differential correction factors for throws (as published).
- Actuator characteristics and interface requirements (On/Off), including electrical requirements and wiring.
- Installation/mounting details and service access requirements.
B. Shop Drawings: Indicate model designation, mounting type (surface mounted or duct mounted), available size selected, finish, installation details, actuator location, required access, and electrical connection routing. For -W models, indicate removable rim detail and required orientation.
C. Airflow Prediction Report (Required – SelectiV): Provide a manufacturer-generated SelectiV airflow prediction report for each diffuser type and each distinct room condition using manufacturer performance data and recognized airflow physics corrections (ΔT correction factors, Coanda effects, buoyancy effects, jet interaction, and wall/floor/ceiling collision effects). Report shall include:
- 3D room model with diffuser locations.
- Predicted airflow visualization views: plan (top), section (side), elevation (front).
- Throws for terminal velocities of 150, 100, 60, 50, 40, 30, and 20 fpm.
- Pressure loss at scheduled airflow.
- Diffuser-generated NC at scheduled airflow.
- Perceived NC at room center (5 ft height) from all sources combined across 63–8000 Hz octave bands; include key assumptions used.
D. Verified CFD Validation (When Indicated): Provide EffectiV Verified CFD validation and summary report for spaces indicated and/or when operation is outside published selection limits.
1.3 SUBSTITUTIONS
A. Substitutions per Division 01. Proposed equals shall provide required electrical/control documentation for On/Off actuator operation and all Part 1 deliverables, including the SelectiV Airflow Prediction Report deliverables.
PART 2 – PRODUCTS
2.1 BASIS OF DESIGN
A. EffectiV KAM-M5 aluminum long throw jet nozzle diffuser adjustable by On/Off actuator.
2.2 MODELS AND MOUNTING (AS SCHEDULED)

3.1 INSTALLATION
A. Install per manufacturer instructions; provide electrical connection for actuator as required and access for servicing.
B. Orient the product according to the markings on the diffuser body; install with the orientation arrow pointing upward.
C. For -W models, install removable rim after fastening to conceal screws.
3.2 ADJUSTING
A. Balance to scheduled airflow.
B. Verify actuator positions achieve required jet direction per control sequence.
