(Thermodynamic)

PART 1 – GENERAL

1.1 SUMMARY

A. Section includes supply and installation of round swirl diffuser model AX6-ACTIF with autonomously thermally adjustable blades by means of a thermodynamic piston, for heating, cooling, and ventilation applications.

B. Diffuser includes an integrated air equalizer.

C. Thermodynamic system and actuator shall be fully concealed within the product and not visible from the occupied space.

D. System shall be fully autonomous and shall require no controls, no electricity, and no wiring of any kind.

E. System shall be factory pre-configured, shipped ready to install, and shall require no field adjustment, calibration, or configuration.

F. Thermodynamic adjustment time: approximately 30 minutes between discharge modes.

G. Applications: architectural, commercial, and industrial.

H. Mounting: duct-mounted or drywall/ceiling-mounted, and may be suspended where required by the application.

I. Ceiling height suitability: suitable for ceilings 16 ft and higher, unless otherwise indicated.

1.2 SUBMITTALS

A. Product Data: Manufacturer’s data for scheduled model(s), sizes, mounting type, and finish, including free area, recommended airflow range, pressure loss, and diffuser-generated NC.

B. Shop Drawings: Dimensioned drawings showing diffuser size, mounting type (duct or drywall/ceiling), duct connection, finish, and installation details.

C. Airflow Prediction Report (Required): Provide manufacturer-generated room airflow prediction report for each diffuser type and each unique room condition, using manufacturer performance data and recognized correction methods (ΔT correction factors, Coanda effects, buoyancy effects, jet interaction, and wall/floor/ceiling collision effects). Report shall include:

1. 3D room layout with diffuser placement.
2. Predicted airflow visualization views: plan (top), section (side), elevation (front).
3. Throws for terminal velocities of 150, 100, 60, 50, 40, 30, and 20 fpm.
4. Pressure loss at scheduled airflow.
5. NC at scheduled airflow.
6. Perceived NC at room center (5 ft height) from all sources combined across 63–8000 Hz octave bands; include resulting NC and key assumptions used.

D. Verified CFD Validation (When Indicated): Provide EffectiV Verified airflow CFD validation and summary report for spaces indicated and/or when operation is outside manufacturer published selection limits.

1.3 QUALITY ASSURANCE

A. Manufacturer Qualifications: Single manufacturer responsible for diffuser and scheduled accessories to ensure consistent fit, finish, and documented performance.

1.4 SUBSTITUTIONS

A. Substitutions shall comply with Division 01.

B. Substitution Compliance Matrix (Required): Proposed equals shall submit a line-by-line compliance matrix for all Part 2 requirements and all required submittals in 1.2, including the Airflow Prediction Report deliverables.

PART 2 – PRODUCTS

2.1 BASIS OF DESIGN

A. EffectiV AX6-ACTIF aluminum adjustable round swirl diffuser with thermodynamic piston and integrated air equalizer.

2.2 MATERIALS AND CONSTRUCTION

A. Construction: heavy-gauge spun aluminum construction suitable for exposed architectural use.

B. Blades: synchronously adjustable blades; thermodynamic piston provides autonomous thermal adjustment.

C. Concealed mechanism: thermodynamic system and actuator concealed within the product; not visible from the room.

D. Autonomous operation: no controls, electricity, or wiring.

E. Factory configured: shipped ready to install; no field configuration required.

F. Actuator life expectancy: thermodynamic actuator/service life shall be equal or superior to 25 years under normal HVAC operating conditions.

2.3 SIZES (AS SCHEDULED)

A. Provide AX6-ACTIF in scheduled neck diameters: 10, 12.5, 16, 20, and 25 inches (250, 315, 400, 500, and 630 mm).

2.4 FINISH

A. Factory powder coated finish, color as scheduled (typical: white M9016 / RAL 9016).

2.5 ACCESSORIES (AS SCHEDULED)

A. CH6 security grille for sports facilities, where scheduled.

B. Air volume dampers where scheduled, including options suitable for high ceilings (e.g., cable- operated or battery electro-balance type), with required termination fixture/remote as applicable.

PART 3 – EXECUTION

3.1 EXAMINATION

A. Verify field conditions and coordination with ductwork, ceiling systems, structure, lighting, sprinklers, and access requirements prior to installation.

3.2 INSTALLATION

A. Install in accordance with manufacturer instructions and approved shop drawings.

B. Provide mounting type (duct or drywall/ceiling) as scheduled; ensure diffuser is level and properly seated/secured.

C. Install accessories where scheduled.

3.3 ADJUSTING AND CLEANING

A. Balance system to scheduled airflow.

B. No field adjustment or configuration of the thermodynamic mechanism is permitted or required.

C. Clean exposed surfaces; repair or replace damaged finishes.
